Kila Raipur Sports Festival, also known by the name Rural Olympics is an annual event organized at the Kila Raipur locale based in Ludhiana, Punjab. This particular event consists of a line of competitions held for popular rural sports in Punjab which include athletic events, cart-race, as well as rope pulling. Each year in the month of February, Ludhiana hustles and bustles with 100s of the sports enthusiasts that also include foreigners. The event was officially initiated in the year 1896.
The visitors come here to see a special line of camels, bullocks, mules, dogs, and similar animals that have been bred specifically for this competitive event.
The participants and competitors for the event range from the teenagers to elderly. However, the competitions involved in this event aren’t for the faint of heart. Additional competition in this event includes Air Pistol Shooting, Dog Races, Ox-Cart Races, Kite Flying, and many others.

Martial Art of India on Display

The cultural program post sports events continue for 3 continuous days in the evening. The event is organized by Grewal Sports Association.
Discontinued Bull Racing
Before the year 2014, Bull Racing was one among the most looked up competition hosted by Kila Raipur Sports Festival. However, the Indian Supreme Court went ahead and banned the same post complaints regarding animal cruelty. This petition started with the year 2012 by the Gau Raksha Dal which filed a complaint regarding the animal cruelty experienced by the bulls used in the game.
Champions
As of now, very few tournaments have been organized between Pakistan and India. Pakistan managed to defeat the Indian participants in 3 out of 5 games while the rest 2 ended in a draw match. Some of the Pakistan-based champions include names such as Abdul Hameed Qureshi, Nadeem Jameel, Noor Khan, etc. The popular Indian champions at Kila Raipur Sports festival include Deepali Gode, Varun, Vivek Baranwal, Vijay Choudhary, Satyendra Tripathi, and many more.
